There is a new face to the working poor and homeless. Today, the faces of the needy are often ones that we do recognize. She is the girl in our child's classroom, the cashier at the grocery store or even the person sitting next to us in church. Families who once had jobs, housing and a vehicle to drive are now concerned about affording their next meal, or where they are going to sleep because a parent has lost his/her job.
Through God's grace, The Red Wagon Ministry, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization was formed to provide disposable diapers and wipes for babies and toddlers. Over the last several years, as the needs have grown, so has the Ministry by expanding services to better provide for these families. This was accomplished through the charitable giving of generous individuals, organizations and churches to "diaper the need" of those qualified to receive them. The Red Wagon Ministry partners with Congregational Community Action Project(CCAP) in Winchester and FISH in Clarke County to distribute the many donations, by doing so, this lowers overhead cost and encourages involvement between the agencies receiving and those giving donations.
By providing disposables, the Ministry's hope is to decrease the chance of abuse and neglect resulting from a child remaining in a soiled diaper all day. Our desire is to further assist those who are struggling financially to work, attend classes and/or job training by aiding them with diapers to be used at day care facilities, where cloth diapers are not accepted. To help families lessen daily hardships in choosing whether to purchase diapers or pay for food or rent.
