The need is continuous as the slow-down in the economy has affected an ever-increasing number of families. Even though, the percentage of local families living in poverty is below the national level. In the fiscal year 2010, there has been a rise in application filings and the length of time many are remaining on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. While both SNAP and WIC programs provide food for families, neither cover the cost of baby accessories i.e. diapers, wipes because they are nonfood items. Yes, cloth diapers are less expensive and environmentally friendlier than disposable diapers, but for the community we serve, cloth diapers are not the solution.
